Grace Maguri is a passionate writer and advocate for women’s empowerment, dedicated to creating stories that spark meaningful conversations and inspire change. She believes in the transformative power of storytelling, that every story told honestly has the potential to shape mindsets and positively influence future generations.

A compilation of short stories that focus on social and cultural issues that affect our everyday lives. Each story examines the plight of the victim and addresses the strategies for survival.

A coming of age story of love and lost love that takes the reader through an amazing journey of self discovery, introspection and painful truths, that gives hope and rest to the wandering heart.

An exceptional anthology of African short stories, Voices That Sing Behind The Veil spans three generations, uniting Africa and its diaspora through powerful narratives edited by Ghanaian writer Ivor Agyeman-Duah.

Participated in The Vagina Monologues Africa, performed by the Intwasa Arts Festival at the Bulawayo Theatre in 2022 — a bold production celebrating women’s voices, stories, and empowerment.
Grace Maguri is a Zimbabwean writer, whose work challenges narratives that often portray Africa, and African women through lenses of pity and defeat. Grace’s writing is rooted in authenticity and resilience. She draws inspiration from her personal experiences to create stories that reflect both struggle and triumph.
Her book Song of The Survivor redefines African storytelling by shifting the focus from victimhood to victory. Through vivid, local short stories that explore social and cultural issues, she portrays women not as helpless, but as powerful agents of change and endurance. “We always tell sob stories of poverty and pain,” she says, “but forget to tell the ones about happiness, survival, and strength. We need more victor than victim stories.”
In Picking Ants, a story of self-discovery praised by Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo director Raisedon Baya, Grace explores women’s attempts to shape their destinies within societal expectations, a metaphor for the delicate balance between agency and fate.

She also contributed a short story to the Voices That Sing Behind The Veil anthology, a collection of short stories by Africans, edited by Ivor Agyeman Duah.
Her involvement in The Vagina Monologues Africa by Intwasa Arts Festival in 2022 further solidified her commitment to amplifying women’s voices and stories. She has also worked with her mentor, Raisedon Baya on the play Sweet Opia.
Through her writing, Grace focuses on crafting relatable, uplifting narratives that reflect real experiences and encourage a positive outlook on life. She doesn’t claim her work is extraordinary, but has witnessed the profound joy readers feel when they encounter stories that resonate with their truths and values.
Grace’s mission is simple yet powerful: to inspire others to find and share their own voices. She hopes that by refusing to be silenced and continuing to tell her story, others will be emboldened to tell theirs, especially in a world that too often deems their experiences irrelevant.

My mum read Picking Ants and absolutely loved it! She kept reading excerpts aloud to me and laughing. We’re both hooked! Do you have any other books?
